This album relates to the idea of the Brazilian sertão, as a faraway place, a place of resistance in the face of adversity and inventiveness from scarcity.
The Brazilian sertão is associated to a sub-region of the Northeast of the country, with a semi-arid climate and that has as predominant vegetation the Caatinga, whose main characteristic is the resistance to drought through natural adaptations.
The duo formed by Marco Scarassatti and Thelmo Cristovam have different but strong connections with this region.
Marco has part of his family coming from the backlands of Pernambuco and Thelmo has the backlands as the place of his most incredible field recordings.
The isolation and social detachment, during this time of pandemic reinforces the idea of the sertão, the sertão in each existence and each need to resist and experiment new ways of existing.
In this way, we created at a distance, with the equipment we had at our disposal, in a mutual listening exercise, as a way to get closer to each other even being more than 2000km apart.
The name of the album refers to two aspects of the sertão, from its characteristic vegetation and fauna. Caraguatá, is a kind of bromeliad, red in color, native to the Brazilian sertão and very resistant to drought. Moxotó is a very common goat, especially in the backlands of Pernambuco, its name comes from the Moxotó river, also located in Pernambuco.
